Icarus

ARTIST STATEMENT
“Reflecting creativity, freedom and liberation, the story of Icarus has always resonated with me as an artist. One day, I decided to capture the story of Icarus as a metaphor for the artist.

“The artist, creating alone in the studio, can sometimes reach a point of ecstasy—the feeling of flying, the creative ‘high’ an artist gets when thoughts flow and all is working well. But, eventually, that euphoria decreases or even disappears, and the artist returns to the every day to rest, hoping to recapture the feelings of that creative experience as described by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi in his book Creativity.

“In this series, the fall of Icarus is presented as the story of the artist’s struggle for creativity and the ‘little death’ experienced in the creative process. The vigilant, faithful crane provides a balance to the tension and drama of creation.”
