Between formal works, Cole would generate smaller pieces, often as creativity exercises in which she would experiment with different media, interpretations, or conceptual juxtapositions. Though most of these works were individual drawings or paintings, at times the exercises involved generating a collection of works focused around a particular theme or object. Whether they were created in a single art journal, drawing pad, or another forum devoted to the exercise, the resulting books offer additional forums in which to see Cole’s process as an artist.
