ARTIST STATEMENT
“On my last visit to New York City, I was fortunate to hear a performance of Verdi’s Requiem performed at Avery Fisher Hall. It was a profound and inspiring performance. While playing the CD version of that concert few days after September 11, I conceived the images presented in these two works. Music and Art came together in a moment of reflective joy and sorrow. At this time, more than ever, I realize that artists have the power to testify to the humanity and inhumanity of mankind through myriad media and styles.
“For me, these works symbolize the destruction not only of lives and structures, but the black, empty space Americans feel in its collective soul. Through the Arts we may find a way to heal and create the greatest of works.”
